More About Us
Updated August 18, 2008
We are a family of eight (for now!): two parents (Heidi & Kirk), six kids (Bereket, Brandon, Bethlehem, Isabella, Selam & Justice), two crazy dogs (Maddox & Sophie), and two crazy cats (Galinda and Elphaba…We love the musical Wicked). If any other animal moves in to our home, it is purely by accident.
Kirk
While Kirk’s job as Payroll Manager for LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville brings home the bacon, leading worship and singing are his ultimate passion. (He has a B.S. in Music and Worship Leadership.) He sometimes leads worship at various local churches and sings on our church's worship team. Kirk is a sports nut and, in his ever-diminishing spare time, loves coaching his kids' athletic teams, playing basketball in the wee hours of the morning, squeezing in a round of golf if his dad is in town, and rooting for the Colts. He is a founding member of the Nashville Soul Choir, a small group of professional singers travels around the local area (and beyond!) to minister through concert to the downtrodden, oppressed, and impoverished. (Check them out on the Nashville Soul Choir website or on their MySpace page.)
Heidi
Heidi is not so much a sports nut, but loves her husband (and her sports-addicted children) anyway. She holds a B.S. in Biology and English and loves anything related to either! Heidi is a bestselling children’s book author. Her six published books can be found on Amazon and at major book retailers. She is also a full-time high school biology teacher. To escape the drone of televised football games, you might find Heidi taking apart broken appliances and repairing them, playing with her camera, reading (non-fiction only!) books, and Googling everything under the sun. Heidi is passionate about social justice issues, particularly those involving girls and women. Her ultimate goal in life is to be a bonus-round-winning contestant on the Wheel of Fortune.
Bereket, 13 years old
Bereket has the biggest and most beautiful smile you will ever see. He is an amazing mini-pro on the soccer field and enjoys whooping up on us measly American players. Bereket is in the 7th grade and loves going to youth group, making others laugh, playing piano, and playing any and all sports with his brother Brandon. He is very bright and such a joy to have in our family. We consider it a pure honor to call him our son.
Brandon, 9 1/2 years old
Brandon is the original Weimer child and is adored by all. He is in the fourth grade, loves learning, playing piano, and reading. Bran is a major sports nut and is affectionately referred to as the “Weasel” by his friends on his flag football and soccer teams. He has a tender heart for Africa and a great love for Ethiopia. His plan is for us to have 15 children. We'll see about that.
Bethlehem, 9 years old
Bethlehem is our Ethiopian princess with a secret spunk and charm. She and Brandon are in the fourth grade together and are quite the pair. Bethlehem has already shown off her soccer skills on the American field and is excited about playing again this year. With a servant's heart and quite the sense of humor, she is going to be used mightily by God one day. But don't be surprised if you also find her one day gracing the covers of magazines and Gap ads. That girl is somethin' else.
Isabella, 6 1/2 years old
Isabella, our 1st grader, keeps us on our toes. She is one busy girl and as funny as they come. Our little stand-up comedienne, she is always writing jokes to share with us. She is also a budding author and has a few books under her little bitty belt already. Isabella loves her newest siblings and is excited to have yet another older sister soon. She is also eager to start gymnastics in the fall, where her powerhouse muscular little self will surely do well. Bella is our California valley girl with beauty and brains.
Selam, 6 years old
Selamawit is the little girl who hopped on the scene to give Isabella a run for her money. If you've been around Selam for five minutes, you know that she is one BUSY and silly little girl. As sweet as they come and as dramatic as they get, Selam will keep you busy...and wear you out! :) She loves her family and has already made a best friend on our street. Selam is excited to be in kindergarten this year where she can show off her English-reading skills. Not bad for a girl who only months ago knew only a few words in the English language! Selam has the cutest accent and has been deemed by us our "East Coast Jersey girl."
Justice, 3 years old
Justice is more fun than we know what to do with. He is a major blabber-mouth and never stops talking! Justice loves loves loves his older brothers and sisters and joins right in with them no matter what they are doing. He is one busy little boy and very silly. There are just no words to describe the boy that is Justice. What a unique and HILARIOUS little guy. He is going to love having two brothers his age soon. What a life he already knows!
